  Cool off from the heat in Rome by checking out this shaved-ice oasis by the river.
  
  Grattachecca has never been better than at Grattachecca Sora Mirella.
  Thanks to the recommendation by Rick Steves (or whoever works for you), we found this place easily, just across the Tiber Island.
  
  The mother-son duo were working hard to serve up these tasty, shaved ice delights.
  They were happy to let me take pictures and were very friendly.
  
  I got the Amarena flavor, which is a sweet, dark cherry flavor. It was good, but a bit too heavy-handed.
  
  My wife got the coconut flavor and it was amazing. Light and refreshing.
  
  I love how they put fresh fruit on the top of the grattachecca. It's a really cool texture and fun flair to a delicious drink.
